Robotic innovators from Batangas State University – IS dominate at Pilipinas RoboSports
April 10, 2024
The Batangas State University Integrated School (Batangas IS) has reaffirmed its dominance in robotics by clinching significant success at the Pilipinas RoboSports tournament. Held at the De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute in Dasmariñas City, Cavite, on April 19, the Batangas IS robotics innovators emerged as the Champion, outperforming other teams in the country.
Exhibiting unparalleled inventive solutions and complex problem-solving abilities in the Research Category, the Champion team brought honor to Batangas State University, The National Engineering University (BatStateU The NEU), by earning widespread acclaim. They introduced the Project PLONE (Protecting Lives, Investing in the Oceans, and Nurturing Exploration), which features robotics-designed analogies to the emergencies and distress calls of marine creatures and addresses a pressing call. The team composed of Angeli Palace from the IS Senior High School, and Sherwin Vilen Recio Mendo from the IS Junior High School, was coached by Mr. Jomari Montalbo.
Their innovation, including the FERBot, is outfitted with advanced technology, including Lego Spike, Arduino hardware, and fire-resistant materials, and it has assessment capabilities in autonomous navigation, flame detection, and waste-management. For example, the OCBMoB, a ship-mounted compartment system that has solar panel and real-time alert system, is a sub-component of FERBot, enabling environmental responsibility.
Additionally, another team from Batangas IS showcased their TACO project (The Art Collaboration), designed to merge art education with robotics, fostering inclusivity. This device aims to assist color-deficient individuals and those with motor and intellectual delays. The team of Angeli M. Montalbo, team members John Angelo Bautista, Ayannah Macalbay, Jose Kevin Rayos, and Ma. Fatima Ysobel Emusya, who persevered under the leadership at the Pilipinas RoboSports tournament, have elevated national and international awareness of the educational movement and to enhance its role in developing future STEM leaders.
