Batangas State University, through its Center for Sustainable Development (CSD), conducted a workshop on April 30, 2024, to equip Sustainable Development Officers (SDOs) with the skills necessary to craft comprehensive sustainability reports. The workshop, titled “”Communicating SDGs: A Workshop on Sustainability Reporting and Assessment Strategies,”” aimed to address the challenges of data consolidation and reporting inconsistencies faced by the university’s campuses. Participants from various campuses attended the workshop, including SDOs, staff, and coordinators from extension campuses.
The first speaker, Ms. Maria Charilee Analou Driz highlighted the essential components that needed to be included in the report, emphasizing the seamless flow of information. Furthermore, she underscored the significance of validation for all data incorporated, ensuring its reliability and accuracy. In her talk, Ms. Driz addressed the issues on consolidation of sustainability-related data, pointing out possible mistakes and offering insights into overcoming common errors encountered during the data collection process.
Following the first discussion, Dr. Vaberlie P. Mandane – Garcia, Sustainable Development Officer, provided a brief training for SDOs and staff on how to effectively write sustainability articles. She highlighted how to write well-informed and comprehensive articles about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)-related projects or initiatives. At the end of discussion, the participants were tasked to write and present a sustainability article that will showcase their campus’ projects or initiatives.
In the afternoon session, Mr. Rafael B. Ramirez, the Data Analyst of CSD, together with students from Alangilan, introduced the first phase of development of the Sustainability Assessment Tool (SAT). SAT is a tool developed by CSD together with the SAT Committee for the purpose of sustainability data collection, analysis and reporting. Mr. Ramirez discussed the SAT’s purpose, features, and application. He also demonstrated how to use the SAT effectively for assessing and monitoring sustainability performance. The workshop concluded with an open forum for questions and discussions.
