On September 30, 2024, Batangas State University (BatStateU) successfully organized the One BatStateU Clean-Up Drive, a significant initiative that coincided with the global observance of International Coastal Clean-Up (ICC) Day and World Cleanup Day. This event witnessed enthusiastic participation from volunteers across various campuses, including the Pablo Borbon Campus, Lipa Campus, JPLPC-Malvar Campus, and the ARASOF Nasugbu Campus.
At the Pablo Borbon Campus, volunteers gathered to clean both the interior and exterior areas, diligently picking up trash and recording the types and weights of waste collected. This effort is part of BatStateU’s broader sustainability goals, which focus on reducing single-use plastics, enhancing waste management practices, and fostering a low-waste campus environment. The Central Administration played a pivotal role in leading this initiative, setting a strong example for the entire BatStateU community and emphasizing the importance of environmental responsibility.
Simultaneously, the Lipa Campus mobilized its community, including faculty, non-teaching staff, and the Supreme Student Council, to participate in their own clean-up efforts. Volunteers collected rubbish from various locations on campus, contributing to the university’s sustainability objectives and addressing the critical issue of plastic pollution in oceans. This initiative not only aimed to clean the campus but also sought to raise awareness about proper waste disposal and its impact on marine ecosystems, aligning with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), 14 (Life Below Water), and 15 (Life on Land).
The ARASOF-Nasugbu Campus also joined the cause by concluding the Dalampasigan 2.0: 39th International Coastal Clean-Up. Faculty and students collaborated with local partners, including the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) and the Environmental Management Unit (EMU), to enhance the health and cleanliness of the environment. This collective effort underscores the university’s commitment to creating a sustainable future and protecting marine resources.
Overall, the One BatStateU Clean-Up Drive exemplifies the dedication of the BatStateU community to environmental stewardship and sustainability, fostering a culture of responsibility and action towards preserving the planet for future generations. The university extends its gratitude to all participants for their commitment to building a cleaner, healthier environment.
